Her uncle thinks “The Crown” is ridiculous
Kate married into the British royal family in 2011. She will eventually become queen alongside Prince William.

Are Princess Kate and her mother completely misrepresented in “The Crown”? The uncle of the future queen now expressed this criticism.
Gary Goldsmith (born 1965), the talkative uncle of Duchess Kate (42) was in a chatting mood again. In a podcast he criticized the portrayal of his family in the final sixth season of “The Crown”.
Drifted into a “fantasy world”.
Gary Goldsmith is the brother of Kate’s mother Carole Middleton (68). He has often spoken about his famous niece – although this is actually not welcomed in royal circles. The new episode of the “Daily Mail” podcast “The Crown: Fact or Fiction” was released on Thursday, which is about the penultimate episode “Hope Street” of the popular Netflix series. Goldsmith was there as a guest – and really challenged the narrative about the British royal family. It is “unfair” how his sister Carole (played by Eve Best, 52) and his niece Kate (played by Meg Bellamy, 21) are portrayed.
“I really enjoyed the first few episodes and the first season of ‘The Crown’, but it just seems to drift into a fantasy world,” said Goldsmith about the Netflix hit, which started in 2016 and ended in December 2023 after six seasons. “There are so many parts that I don’t agree with.” It’s more about “making headlines and reaching an audience” than about facts. “So when it started getting ridiculous and fantastic, it was very difficult to keep watching. So I stopped,” he explained. However, he fears that viewers will believe everything presented in the series. “And we think, ‘Am I watching ‘The Crown’ or is it ‘Coronation Street’?” He was referring to Britain’s longest-running soap opera. A lot of things about “The Crown” are simply made up.
Princess Kate appeared for the first time in the sixth season of the series. The beginning love story with Prince William (41) was covered. The producers took creative liberties, imagining, for example, that William and Kate met on the street as teenagers and that Kate’s mother had strategically planned to send her eldest daughter to the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. so that she can meet the prince there. The episode “Hope Street” recreated the infamous university fashion show, where Kate supposedly caught the prince’s eye in a sheer dress. On the show, Carole urged her daughter to “show off her legs” to impress William.
Gary Goldsmith wonders about the lack of consequences
Gary Goldsmith disputed these accounts, saying his niece worked hard to get into the prestigious school on her own. “First and foremost, Kate managed to get to St Andrews. She’s an amazing girl but that didn’t register.” The way it was portrayed was “just not my family.” That’s not how Carole behaves: “The idea that Carole suggested my mother’s granddaughter show some leg is so far from the truth. It’s just ridiculous.”
However, he believes that “the family is a bit too distinguished” to see “things like that.” But he is surprised that there are no consequences: “I don’t understand why Carole hasn’t taken legal action because it’s literally so bad. Carole is not this manipulative, evil person who sits in a dungeon and finds ways for her to actually get into the royal family.” He said of his sister: “She has a strong will, she has an opinion, that’s why we have the children and the family we have today.”
