The Netflix series “The Crown” will also address the death of Princess Diana in its sixth season – although it is not clear how explicit the pictures will be. This is already causing irritation among the royals.
Princess Diana’s death is without a doubt one of the most anticipated parts of the Netflix series The Crown. Not only fans of the series are wondering how the tragic event from 1997 will be taken up, but the royals themselves will also be registering the further course of the series very closely – this is especially true for Diana’s former husband, King Charles III. as well as their sons William and Harry.
It seems certain that the death of the princess will be a theme in the sixth season: pictures of filming have appeared on which Diana’s death journey is being recreated. The scenes were filmed very close to the Alma tunnel in Paris, where Diana died in a car accident. However, the series makers have already announced that death itself should not be shown.

Nevertheless, the series should open up many wounds in the royal family. William and Harry in particular suffered from the death of their mother. The Princess of Wales divorced her husband, then Prince Charles, in 1996. A year later she died in a car accident at the age of 36, as did her new partner Dodi Al-Fayed. Her car crashed into a pillar in the tunnel at high speed. As can be seen in the footage from the shoot, the paparazzi chasing Diana, played by Elizabeth Debicki, will also be seen. The princess is said to have had an accident because the driver fled from the photographers.
In Great Britain, the criticism of the shooting is great. Debbie Frank, a good friend of Diana’s, told the Daily Mail: “It’s terrifying for the children to see a re-enactment of the moments that led to their mother’s death.” But not only Princes William and Harry experienced trauma at the time, she says. The death of the princess also had “an enormous impact on the national psyche”: “I have the feeling that her death and the accident was the biggest shock of our generation.”
Prince William upset about ‘The Crown’
It will be some time before the shot scenes can actually be seen. First of all, the fifth season of “The Crown” starts on November 9th. Even the trailer was reportedly not well received by the royal family. A palace official has revealed that Prince William was “exasperated” because Netflix is recreating the legendary BBC interview in which Diana spoke about the reasons for her divorce from Charles in the new season.
