Princess Ariane, the youngest daughter of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima, is starting her first year at school in Italy.

Into a new phase of life! Princess Ariane (16) of the Netherlands, the youngest daughter of King Willem-Alexander (56) and Queen Máxima (52), is starting her first year at her new school in Italy. She will do her International Baccalaureate (equivalent to the German Abitur) at the United World College Adriatic near Trieste.

King Willem-Alexander becomes a photographer for his daughter

The royal house shared a photo of the princess on Instagram in front of her new school. A particularly sweet detail: the king and proud dad took the picture himself. The 16-year-old beams into the camera in a summery outfit.

Ariane is moving abroad like her older sister, Princess Alexia (18). The 18-year-old graduated from the United World College of the Atlantic in Wales just a few weeks ago. The Spanish princess Leonor (17) also attended the school.

Only Crown Princess Amalia stayed at home

Crown Princess Amalia, the eldest daughter of the royal couple, stayed at home for her school career. She graduated from the Christelijk Gymnasium Sorghvliet in The Hague in 2021. After that, she took a one-year sabbatical, during which she volunteered at various social organizations.

She has been studying politics, psychology, law and economics at the University of Amsterdam since September 2022. On her 18th birthday on December 7, 2021, she entered the State Council in accordance with the constitution and has regularly taken on public duties ever since. In February 2023 she completed her first official trip abroad.

Amalia will one day follow in the footsteps of her father Willem. He was crowned the new King of the Netherlands in a ceremony in Amsterdam’s Nieuwe Kerk on April 30, 2013, after Queen Beatrix (85) announced her abdication after 33 years on the throne in January of the same year.
