Royal visits the “Film Africa” festival

Royal in the cinema: Prince William visited “Film Africa 2022” in London on Wednesday – a festival that presents African productions.
It may have been one of the more pleasant royal engagements that Prince William (40) pursued in London last Wednesday (November 2). Because as patron of the Royal African Society – an office that he took over from Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022) in 2016 – he also went to the cinema: since October 28th and until November 6th London “Film Africa 2022” will take place. The festival, presented by The Royal African Society and first held in 2011, celebrates its tenth anniversary this year.
48 films from 16 African countries, including 22 UK, European and world premieres, will be shown to the London audience during the film festival. “Today we met filmmakers and film students who represent world-leading creativity. These talented people are not just the creators of today, they are the leaders of tomorrow. We look forward to seeing more of your work,” it says in the tweet, which was published via William’s shared account with Princess Kate (40).
In order to find out more about the origins of African cinema himself, Prince William met filmmakers with African roots at the Garden Cinema in London. He also attended a panel discussion by African filmmakers as an audience member, having previously listened to a panel discussion.
Solo at the Tusk Awards the day before
Just a day earlier, Prince William – also without Princess Kate at his side – attended the tenth edition of the Tusk Awards. It was his first public appearance in several weeks, during which he had taken a break with his family. Since 2005 he has been closely associated with the non-profit organization, which since 2013 has honored the work of people who contribute to preserving the animal and plant world in Africa.
“We live in turbulent times and it’s easy to lose sight of the importance of taking care of nature,” said Prince William at the event. “But we have to stay focused and invest in our nature and environment to preserve it for future generations.”
