Prince Harry and his wife Meghan left the UK in 2020. Nonetheless, the Prince remains Councilor of State to the Queen. Government officials are now questioning this function.

Prince Harry has just renewed the lease of Frogmore Cottage in England, thereby continuing to secure a place as Queen’s deputy. Now, according to the Daily Mail, a parliamentary letter has appeared stating that Prince Harry’s suitability as “Counselors of State” will be reviewed, since his main residence is America.

The Counselors of State are the next four heirs to the throne after the Queen, who are over the age of 21 and must be of English passport and residence. These are currently: Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince Harry and Prince Andrew. But the matter with Prince Harry’s English residence turns out to be more difficult than expected, despite the extension of the lease. And the disgraced Prince Andrew, who was involved in an abuse scandal, shouldn’t be welcome on this list either.

Prince Harry has turned away from the British royal family, but not from his position as Councilor of State

The “House of Commons Library”, known as the library and information source of the House of Commons in the British Parliament, is said to have already prepared a guide. This includes the arrangements for what happens if a monarch is unable to perform his royal functions. “As Prince Harry resides in the United States, he should no longer be eligible to be a British Councilor of State, which is putting pressure on the Queen,” a government official told British News magazine. Unlike Prince Andrew, who, despite the public loss of reputation, meets all the necessary points to continue to be his mother’s representative.

The government official is also said to have commented: “There is a lot of noise surrounding Prince Harry and Prince Andrew’s roles as Councilors of State and key MPs are believed to have all the facts. It has nothing to do with Her Majesty being ill.” The Queen, her son Prince Charles and his wife Camilla have all tested positive for the coronavirus.

The “Counselors of State” are a kind of deputies to Queen Elizabeth II. In the event of a temporary disability or absence from the UK, the Queen can appoint councilors of state to ensure the continuation of “public business”.
