Was Harry not allowed to stay overnight in a residence and Charles really didn’t have time for him? Royal insiders see things a little differently.

Prince Harry (39) has already moved on, but his short stay in London a few days ago is still causing a stir. The Duke of Sussex came to the British capital from his native California to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games. What caused a stir was that a member of the royal family was apparently staying at the hotel and that King Charles (75) didn’t even take a moment to meet his son, who had emigrated to the USA.

Charles has offered Harry a residency

As the “Sunday Times” reports, citing friends of Charles, the monarch agreed to a request from his younger son to stay in a royal residence during his trip to London. Prince Harry has not had a home in Great Britain since he moved out of Frogmore Cottage, which he had to vacate in 2023 at the behest of his father. The 39-year-old apparently stayed in a hotel during his recent stay in London.

Was that why it was impossible to meet the king? According to the Times, the monarch’s friends pointed out that a stay in a royal residence would have made the visit to his father easier to organize. According to the newspaper, those around Harry insist that he applied to see his father long before his trip. Harry must register a visit with his father at least 28 days in advance, the report says. However, insiders from the king’s camp apparently know nothing about such a request.

Was there a request or not?

“It’s all very sad,” a friend of Charles was quoted as saying by the Sunday Times. “It is true that the King is understandably cautious about meeting Harry, given the public circus that seems to surround such visits.” But the king, who was suffering from cancer, finally agreed to see his son at very short notice in February. After Charles made his cancer diagnosis public, Harry traveled to him for a short visit. The insider now suggested that Charles would have made time for Harry if he had asked. The Duke of Sussex, on the other hand, is said to have been “very affected” by the missed opportunity. So was it all just a misunderstanding?

In a statement last Tuesday (May 7), a spokesman for Harry suggested that the King was too busy to see his son: “Due to His Majesty’s busy schedule, it will unfortunately not be possible. The Duke of course understands for his father’s appointment commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon”.
