Prince Harry has extended his lease of Frogmore Cottages. This has more far-reaching consequences than simply having another place of residence. Prince Harry remains the Queen’s official deputy with the extension.

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan now live in sunny California. They left rainy England and only wanted to have the bare minimum to do with the royal family. But now Prince Harry is extending the lease of “Frogmore Cottages” with royal consequences: through this action he remains a representative of the Queen.

The lease extension could serve a very crucial point. As long as Prince Harry holds an English passport and resides in England, he will remain a member of the Counselors of State. The Councilors of State are four members of the royal family who are authorized to represent the Queen in the event of her indisposition. British constitutional law states that for this post you must be over 21 and in the line of succession to the throne. The order of the Counselors of State is now: Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince Harry and Prince Andrew.

Prince Harry keeps a foot in the door in the royal family

With the renewal of the lease, the Duke of Sussex retains the right to be one of those Councilors of State. Although the prince resigned from his senior royal duties in 2020. With Prince Harry and Meghan not currently planning to move back to England, maintaining the residence could serve to secure Prince Harry’s place as Councilor of State.

According to The Telegraph, the lease for the transfer of “Frogmore Cottage” should expire on March 31. Without further ado, Prince Harry then extended the lease, as “The Telegraph” reported. The house, which stands on the grounds of Windsor Castle, was given to Prince Harry and Meghan by the Queen as their wedding residence. Just minutes away from Queen Elizabeth II herself, who has been staying at Windsor Castle for the most part for some time.

But the couple decided they’d rather live in the United States and have spoken negatively about the British royal family. It is therefore surprising that the rental contract for the scorned cottage has now been extended. A spokesman for the prince says there are currently no plans to change the arrangements. And this despite the fact that Prince Harry’s cousin, Princess Eugenie, and her family have been living in the house for some time.
