Prince Harry’s book has already sold more than 400,000 copies in Great Britain in 24 hours – only Harry Potter was more successful.

“Spare” (German title “Reserve”) has been dominating the headlines for weeks, and Prince Harry’s (38) memoirs have been officially on the market since Tuesday – and according to the publisher, more successful than any other non-fiction book of all time in Great Britain.

Accordingly, the book has already sold more than 400,000 copies there on the first day of sale. The publication was even reason enough for some bookstores to remain open on Tuesday night in order to be able to offer the 512-page work from midnight.

“As far as we know, the only books that sold more on day one are those starring the other Harry,” quoted “Daily Mail” the managing director of the publishing house Penguin Random House. Books from the fantasy series “Harry Potter” even sold more than 2.6 million copies in one day.

“Spare” – the reserve for the heir to the throne

In the book, the content of which has already been widely reported in advance, Prince Harry writes about his view of things in the British royal family, his life and his role as a replacement heir to the throne. “I was the shadow man, the support, the plan B. I was born in case something happened to Willy,” it says at one point. The book also deals with spicy topics such as Harry’s first time, drug use or a physical altercation with Prince William (40).

The book has been published in 14 languages. As the publisher also states, Prince Harry wants to support British charities with the proceeds from the sale.
