Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan are guarded by a five-person security team at the Invictus Games. One of the bodyguards has protected US Presidents.

He already guarded George W. Bush and Barack Obama: Christopher Sanchez is one of the bodyguards of Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan. While the prince is still at odds with Britain over his security status, the couple hired a top-notch security team in the Netherlands.

The Sussexes are the guests of honor at the Invictus Games in The Hague. In the Netherlands they received “VVIP” status and the associated security measures. As “Very, Very Important Persons” at the sports event for war-disabled athletes, they enjoy a higher standard of security, including police protection. Great Britain denies the former members of the royal family these protective measures in the home of the prince.

Sussex bodyguard was US Secret Service operative

When Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan arrived at the event, they were flanked by five bodyguards. One of them, Christopher Sanchez, was with the US Secret Service for five years, including two and a half years with Barack Obama and George W. Bush. Duchess Meghan sat in the front seat while four bodyguards drove behind in another Land Rover. They all jumped out of the vehicle as Harry pulled onto a strip of grass in front of the athletes’ entrance and immediately the security team formed a protective shield around the couple. All five security guards had earphones, but there were no visible signs of guns under their clothing.

Duchess Meghan is scheduled to fly back to California on Easter Monday. She had already expressed at the Paralympic competition how much she missed her two children. The “Daily Mail” has also learned that Prince Harry will probably not appear in the Zuiderpark today, where the games are taking place. However, he is said to be scheduled for Friday night’s closing ceremony in The Hague, where he will also give a short speech. The King of the Netherlands, Willem-Alexander, is also said to be present.
