Palace officials are said to have asked William and Kate to allow their son Prince George to attend the Queen’s state funeral.
Prince George (9) has to cope with the death of his great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022). As reported by the British “Daily Mail”.senior palace officials are said to have asked George’s parents, Prince William (40) and Duchess Kate (40), that the nine-year-old attend the Queen’s state funeral next Monday (September 19).
Children kept out of the public eye
The staff said they were “very keen that Prince George be present at the funeral in any way, if only to convince the nation of the succession to the throne.” George is second in line to the British throne after his father. Another Palace source added: “It is currently being discussed. No decision has been made yet.”
The Prince and Princess of Wales’ children, who alongside George are Princess Charlotte, 7, and Prince Louis, 4, have not made a public appearance since the Queen’s death was announced on September 8. It remains to be seen whether Prince William would want Prince George to mourn in public.
Because most recently, the funeral procession through London, in which the coffin of Queen Elizabeth II was brought from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall, brought back bad memories for the 40-year-old. “He said how difficult it was yesterday and that it reminded him of his mother’s funeral,” a source told the Telegraph when William appeared at Sandringham House. Princess Diana died in a traffic accident on August 31, 1997. The images of how today’s King Charles III. (73) and his children William and Harry (38) walked behind the coffin, went around the world a little later.
Prince Harry also spoke about Lady Di’s funeral in the past: “My mother had just died and I had to walk the long way behind her coffin, surrounded by thousands of people and millions more in front of the televisions,” he recalled in 2017 US magazine “Newsweek” and added: “I think that this should not be expected of any child, under any circumstances.”
According to media reports, around 2,000 mourners are expected at the Queen’s state funeral on September 19 in London’s Westminster Abbey.
