The Duke of Edinburgh presents the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award for committed young people in Berlin.

Prince Edward (59) starts a two-day visit to Berlin today (May 22, 2023). The youngest brother of King Charles III. (74) will present the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award in the capital. The charity of the same name supports young people with extracurricular, voluntary commitments.

The award ceremony, which honors successful graduates of the project, will take place at 4 p.m. in the James Simon Gallery. To mark the occasion, Prince Edward will sign the city’s Golden Book.

Before the award ceremony, the Duke of Edinburgh visits a school in Berlin’s Wedding district. There he is supposed to exchange ideas with students who take part in the program of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. Education Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger (55, FDP) accompanies him on the flying visit.

On Tuesday, May 23, 2023, Prince Edward will make a stop at the Alexander House in Groß-Glienicke. This is the former home of a Jewish family who fled to Great Britain during World War II. Today there is a meeting place. Edward wants to find out about their work.

Prince Edward: The new Duke of Edinburgh and patron of the organization of the same name

Prince Edward took over the patronage of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award in March 2023 from his father Prince Philipp, who died in 2021. Phillip founded the organization in 1956 with German educator Kurt Hahn (1886-1974).

Also since March 2023, Prince Edward has held the title Duke of Edinburgh. After the death of Prince Philip, the title initially passed to his eldest son, who later became King Charles III. He then awarded the title to his youngest brother on the occasion of his 59th birthday on March 10th.
