Netflix film “Scoop”: Who plays who?

In 2019, Prince Andrew defended his friendship with the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein (1953-2019) on the BBC news program “Newsnight” and talked about it. The interview was a PR disaster and ultimately led to Andrew stepping down from his royal duties.

In the film, the prince is played by Rufus Sewell (56), Gillian Anderson (55) plays Emily Maitlis, who grilled Prince Andrew in the interview. Billie Piper (41) plays producer Sam McAlister, who negotiated with Buckingham Palace and arranged the interview. McAlister wrote the book “Scoops” about the scandalous interview, which served as the basis for the film.

According to the announcement, “Scoop” will provide “insight into the dogged research that ultimately led to Prince Andrew’s scandalous BBC ‘Newsnight’ interview” based on true events and shine a spotlight on the “women who risked everything and stopped at nothing “to reveal the truth”. The trailer mainly shows Anderson and Piper, whose faces show the tension before the important interview. You can also see the carefully thought-out setting of the interview in Buckingham Palace. At the end, the viewer looks into Sewell’s eyes, who also appears tense as Prince Andrew and is greeted by Anderson alias Emily Maitlis as “Your Royal Highness”.
