Prince Andrew and Virginia Giuffre have settled out of court, averting a sex abuse lawsuit. Apparently, that doesn’t mean that the American has to remain silent about the events forever.
It was good news for the British royal family: on Tuesday afternoon it became known that Prince Andrew and Virginia Giuffre had settled out of court. This averted a sexual abuse lawsuit against a member of Queen Elizabeth II’s family.
In the year of her 70th jubilee, the monarch will be spared the embarrassment of more sordid details about her favorite son’s dealings leaking out.
At least for now. Because, as British media reports, the 38-year-old American is giving up her civil lawsuit against Prince Andrew – but not continuing to talk about the incidents from 2001.
Prince Andrew met Virginia Giuffre in 2001
Giuffre claims he was brought to London at the age of 17 by sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, who has since been convicted of child trafficking. There she was forced to have sex with Prince Andrew.
The Duke of York denies the allegations, even claims not to know Giuffre – but a photo from 2001, which can also be seen in this article, shows the two together. A public trial would probably have brought a lot of embarrassing details to light.
Virginia Giuffre will not speak about her experiences with Prince Andrew in court. Appearances in the media are still possible. And yet the Queen can be happy about the agreement reached.
The Queen is the focus
In the long run, this will not protect the queen from uncomfortable revelations about her son. But apparently the plaintiff has committed to remain silent at least until the Queen’s 70th jubilee. True, the exact date was already on February 6 of this year. But the big celebrations are yet to come: from June 2nd to 5th, 2022, the United Kingdom is to celebrate its Queen.
From the looks of it, Prince Andrew and his missteps won’t be in the public eye until then. And the younger brother of heir to the throne Prince Charles should also be excluded from the ceremonies. Only the Queen can be seen in the center – and no one else.
