After agreeing to a settlement, Prince Andrew has now made the required payment to plaintiff Virginia Roberts, thereby avoiding civil litigation.

In the abuse trial of Prince Andrew and Virginia Roberts Giuffre, an out-of-court settlement was reached in mid-February. Now the son of Queen Elizabeth II has paid the required amount of compensation. This is reported by the British news agency PA and the AFP. Accordingly, it should be an eight-digit amount.

A few days ago, it was speculated that Prince Charles would pay most of the out-of-court settlement. In order to raise the sum for his younger brother, Charles is said to have even taken out a loan. However, the British taxpayer paid none of this. Although the terms of the settlement were to remain top secret, Prince Charles is said to have loaned his brother £7million. The total sum of the comparison is not confirmed by this either, but £12 million is repeatedly heard. The Queen also paid part of the compensation out of her own pocket. The Queen is said to have donated £2million to Roberts’ charity fund.

Out-of-court settlement in mid-February

The civil case that Andrew was threatened with prior to the settlement has now been officially dismissed in court. The relevant court documents, which only require a signature from the competent New York judge, were sent out on Monday. A federal judge in New York on Tuesday signed a “contract agreement” between Queen Elizabeth II’s second son and plaintiff Virginia Roberts. The settlement that Prince Andrew and Roberts agreed on in mid-February allowed the Queen’s son to avert civil litigation in the United States.

The civil trial alleging abuse of a minor would have taken place publicly before a jury. Roberts had accused Prince Andrew of repeatedly sexually abusing her at the age of 17 and sued in the United States. Prince Andrew still denies the crime, but went into the financial comparison with the plaintiff.
