Already stripped of his honorary military titles, Prince Andrew has now also lost his honorary citizenship of the City of York.

Prince Andrew (62), the disgraced Duke of York, has lost his honorary citizenship of the City of York. This is reported by the BBC, among others. Accordingly, the son of Queen Elizabeth II (96) was stripped of the 1987 “Freedom of the City of York” award after a unanimous vote by the city councilors on Wednesday evening (April 27). They also asked the prince to relinquish his title as Duke of York. The rank of duke can only be revoked by an act of parliament. One member suggested Andrew’s daughter Princess Beatrice, 33, could become a Duchess, according to the BBC.

Prince Andrew had made numerous negative headlines in recent years. The Royal only settled an abuse lawsuit by Virginia Giuffre (38) before a US court out of court in February. Andrew, who is said to have paid millions to Giuffre, has always denied the allegations against him. At a memorial service for Prince Philip (1921-2021) on March 29, Queen Elizabeth II unexpectedly appeared at her son’s side.
