Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez surprisingly dissolved parliament and called new elections. The announcement comes in response to the electoral defeat suffered by the Socialists in this Sunday’s local and regional elections. Sánchez appeared before the press on Monday afternoon and announced that he had spoken to the king. The election is scheduled to take place on July 23.
