The Republicans’ allegations against US President’s son Hunter Biden include alleged bribes from Ukraine. The basis for this was an FBI informant – but he is said to have lied.

According to media reports, an ex-FBI informant has been arrested in the USA on charges of corruption against the president’s son Having invented Hunter Biden and his father. The 43-year-old was taken into custody at Las Vegas airport, US media reported, citing the Justice Department.

He is accused, among other things, of fabricating alleged millions in payments from a Ukrainian energy company to Hunter and Joe Biden. “The defendant’s story to the FBI was a fabrication,” says the indictment, which was filed by special prosecutor David Weiss, appointed by the Justice Department in the Hunter Biden case. If convicted, he could face up to 25 years in prison.

The informant said at the time that his contacts in the Ukrainian company had told him that Hunter Biden and his father each received five million dollars in 2015/2016 to “protect the company from all possible problems.” In reality, the informant only had contact with the company in 2017. These were also completely ordinary; he only later turned them into conversations about alleged bribes for the Bidens.

Hunter Biden held a lucrative position on the supervisory board of the Ukrainian energy supplier between 2014 and 2019. His father was Vice President responsible for US policy towards Ukraine until the end of 2016.

Republicans push forward with impeachment proceedings

The business of Hunter Biden, who has to answer in court for possible tax crimes, among other things, is repeatedly linked to his father. Republicans in the House of Representatives are pushing ahead with investigations into possible impeachment proceedings against Joe Biden. They accuse the Democratic president of abusing his public office for the financial benefit of his family.

However, they have not yet provided clear evidence of serious misconduct. It is questionable whether the investigation could actually result in impeachment proceedings. Joe Biden wants to run for a second term in the US election in November.

Hunter Biden’s lawyer Abbe Lowell said after the charges against the former informant were announced that this was proof that the allegations against his client were fabricated: “We have been warning for months that the Republicans will not stop their conspiracies about Hunter and his family based on facts, but on lies told by people with political intentions. We were right, and their balloon is now deflated.”
