When going into the dressing room, Erling Haaland clenched his fists again. His German teammate Ilkay Gündogan sent the appropriate comment a little later via Twitter: “What a comeback.”

Haaland and Gündogan were 0-2 behind with Manchester City in the Premier League catch-up game against Tottenham Hotspur after a lightning brace. Within a very short time and then immediately before the break – but star coach Pep Guardiola’s team delivered a terrific second half.

Within twelve minutes, Julián Álvarez, Haaland and Riyad Mahrez turned the 0:2 into a 3:2, and Mahrez scored again in the last minute. In the end it was 4:2. “Proud of my boys,” wrote Captain Gündogan.

“We showed what and who we are,” emphasized double goalscorer “Magic Mahrez” (“The Sun”), but also admitted: “We were a bit lucky.” However, they deserved the win, which saw them gain five points over Premier League leaders Arsenal after playing one more game.

In a defeat to Spurs just five days after losing the city derby to United, the championship would hardly have been an issue for and for the defending champions. But “The Independent” asked: “The comeback to catch Arsenal? The top of the table looks a lot better for Manchester City because Pep Guardiola’s side looked like a champion again.”
