1.2 billion dollars – the Powerball jackpot in the USA has grown to this incredible amount after no winner could be determined in the drawing on Monday. More than 5.4 million tickets were up for grabs with cash prizes totaling $59.9 million, the company said in a press release. Among them were ten winners, each winning $1 million, and three entries winning a prize of $2 million.
Should a player hit the jackpot on Wednesday, it would be the second largest jackpot in Powerball’s 30-year history and the fourth largest in US lottery history. The world record jackpot was $1.586 billion. This record win was shared in January 2016 by three lucky Powerball players in California, Florida and Tennessee.
Powerball jackpot was last cleared in August
The last time the Powerball jackpot was hit was on August 3, when a ticket in Pennsylvania hit all five white balls and the red Powerball to win a $206.9 million jackpot. “Since then, there have been 37 consecutive draws without a grand prize winner,” the company said.
