Post – More strikes – Economy

The Verdi union has continued its warning strikes in the collective bargaining dispute with Deutsche Post. From Thursday to Saturday, around 42,000 employees in parcel and letter centers and in parcel, letter and group delivery nationwide took part, the union said. “The high level of participation in the strikes makes it clear that our members are fully behind their demands,” said Verdi Deputy Chief Negotiator Andrea Kocsis. Verdi had called on workers in selected companies nationwide to go on strike.

The Post said that a little more than a third of those present at the affected locations followed the call for a strike. According to the current status, around 20 percent of the average daily volume of parcels and around nine percent of letters are affected nationwide.

In view of the high inflation, Verdi is demanding 15 percent more wages for the around 160,000 employees in Germany with a contract for a period of twelve months. The Post had repeatedly dismissed the salary claim as unrealistic.
