Portugal takes on Sweden

Portugal is starting its March international break in the best way. Qualified for Euro 2024 after finishing undefeated and in first place in Group J, the Lusitanian selection was battling Sweden, a team which failed to secure its ticket for the tournament which will take place in Germany, this summer. In this friendly encounter, the Portuguese were quick to take control. Author of a sublime goal, Rafael Leao showed the way to his partners before being imitated by Matheus Nunes (2-0, 33rd) then Bruno Fernandes before the break (3-0, 45th).

Despite the multiple changes made at the start of the second act, the Seleçao did not flinch. She even took off through Bruma (4-0, 57th) before Victor Gyokeres saved the honor of the Blagults, a minute later (4-1, 58th). After the hour mark, Parisian striker Gonçalo Ramos added his contribution (5-1, 61st) while Gustaf Nilsson reduced the score at the end of the game (5-2, 90th). With this resounding success, Roberto Martinez’s men can approach their trip to Slovenia next Tuesday with complete peace of mind. On the other hand, it was a cold shower for Jon Dahl Tomasson who suffered a terrible disappointment for his first time on the Swedish bench.
