Portrait: Gabriel Attal, 34, becomes France’s youngest prime minister

French President Macron dismisses his Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne – her successor Gabriel Attal is supposed to bring a breath of fresh air into the government. He is considered Macron’s model student.

Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne pushed the president’s most important and at the same time most difficult projects through parliament energetically and with gritted teeth: the hated pension reform last spring and, shortly before Christmas, the change to the immigration law. After that, as expected, her approval ratings plummeted so deeply that she now had to leave. President Emmanuel Macron announced her dismissal from “X”, but she was not allowed to announce her departure at least at the same time.
