Serious industrial accident in the port of Hamburg: Two workers fall through a light shaft. One dies, the other is seriously injured.
When working on the roof of a logistics company in the Hamburg port area, two men are separated by one Light shaft collapsed. One of them fell 15 meters to the hall floor. The 61-year-old was fatally injured, says a fire department spokeswoman. The other worker, aged 37, fell eight meters and landed on a shelf. He was seriously injured. According to police, both men were doing cleaning work.
The exact course of the accident in the Wilhelmsburg district is still unclear. The department responsible for industrial accidents in the State Criminal Police Office took over the investigation. It is said that the Office of Building Construction is also involved in the investigation.
Just on October 30 last year, four workers died when a work platform fell on a construction site in Hafencity – a fifth worker died of serious injuries in hospital. According to the fire department, the scaffolding collapsed at the level of the eighth floor of an elevator shaft and fell into the basement. The public prosecutor then initiated an investigation.
