Porsche is expanding its Taycan family further. Limousine and Cross Turismo have a brother with a familiar touch: Sport Turismo. At the wheel, the pseudo station wagon is a real Taycan and looks better than ever.

The gap that the 4.96 meter long Shooting Brake from Zuffenhausen is looking for is small – admittedly very small. Because only small optical details distinguish it from the well-known Cross Turismo, which arouses subtle off-road feelings. And if the gap seems narrow enough, then with the GTS it becomes a whole corner smaller, but faster. The up to 440 kW / 598 PS strong Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo is therefore something for individualists with a heart for the chic rear end. The cargo space in normal seating doesn’t offer much more space than in the limousine, but it just looks good. But behind the electrically opening tailgate there is a significantly larger load volume of up to 1,212 liters when the rear seats are folded down. Otherwise 446 liters can be used, which means a ten percent plus compared to the four-door. Probably even more important for many customers: hairstyle or headgear do not have to suffer in the rear of the Sport Turismo, because there is almost five centimeters more head space compared to the coupé sedan.

But the roof not only offers more freedom over your own locks, but also real high-tech. The large panorama roof protects against excessive solar radiation and can switch from clear to matt thanks to a switchable film made of liquid crystals. This protects the occupants from annoying glare, but does not darken the interior. The sun canopy is divided into nine segments that can be switched individually if required.

There are no notable differences between the Taycan GTS and Taycan GTS Sport Turismo in terms of performance and driving behavior. In normal driving, the electric power station wagon has an output of 380 kW / 517 PS. In overboost, up to 440 kW / 598 PS are available for a short time, which the sedan also offers. More impressive than the engine power itself is the enormous torque of a maximum of 850 Nm, which provides tremendous thrust from any speed, which is transferred to the two axles via all-wheel drive.

It is not so much the driving performance that attracts a buyer to the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo at least 132,786 euros, because the 440 kW / 598 PS bring hardly any more sportiness than a Taycan 4S. From standstill it goes to 100 km / h in 3.7 seconds, and the propulsion is over at 250 km / h. During normal driving, the impressive engine power is transferred to the rear axle with its two-stage gear ratio, while part of it is brought to the front axle during dynamic cornering or traction problems. No surprise that the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo pampers its occupants with a brutal thrust and it sometimes seems as if it doesn’t have an empty weight of 2.3 tons on its ribs. The battery pack with its capacity of 93.4 kWh is sufficient for a maximum of 490 kilometers – with a prospective standard consumption of 21 to 24.1 kWh per 100 kilometers. Like all his brothers, the Swabian can charge a maximum of 270 kilowatts and needs nine hours on the 11 kW connection at home to fully recharge. It takes around 20 minutes at the fast charging station to bring the battery to 80 percent. The large braking power that the Taycan offers ensures greater range, because a large part of the deceleration occurs without the actual braking system, because the recuperation pushes the brake pedal back into the battery pack with up to 275 kilowatts.

With its variable air suspension, the chassis also offers the sporty package that is well known from the Taycan. Sports car drivers in particular have to get used to the steering characteristics, but the Swabians have noticeably improved this since the Taycan launch. The difference to the Taycan 4S is not so much the driving experience, but the optics with the hatchback and the insignia from the GTS drawer. Black elements on exterior mirrors, sills and air inlets set it apart from the Taycan 4S, as does the standard Sport Chrono package and aluminum wheels with 20 or 21-inch tires. In the interior, the occupants enjoy comfortable leather chairs with Alcantara elements on the door panels and the dashboard, which is particularly attractive in combination with the contrasting stitching. At the start, the GTS version is the only way to move a Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo. But more should be added in the spring and the other engine variants will also come to customers based on the example of the Cross Turismo.
