There is no other car manufacturer who diversifies its individual model series as finely as Porsche. The electric Taycan makes no difference to its brothers 911 or Panamera. The new GTS closes the tiny gap between the Taycan Turbo and 4S.

It is not so much the driving performance that will attract a buyer to the Taycan GTS for at least 131,834 euros, because the bottom line is that the 440 kW / 598 PS hardly bring any more sportiness and this can certainly not be achieved at the wheel of everyday operation. From standstill it goes to 100 km / h in 3.7 seconds, at 250 km / h there is no more fun and the 850 Nm maximum torque is so gigantic that you can hardly tell the difference to the minus of the Taycan 4S – with the same all-wheel drive on the road feels. With so much thrust, this all-wheel drive, which is largely switched off during tame driving, is indispensable in order to be able to conjure up the gigantic performance with the corresponding performance requirements on the ground.

The Taycan GTS accelerates brutally – especially in view of the lush weight of 2.3 tons – and pushes from seemingly every speed range as if the engine power were available in almost unlimited volume. If there is just under 600 PS in the short-term boost, which you can apparently draw from as you like, it is a stately 517 PS even under continuous load. The battery pack with its capacity of 93.4 kWh is sufficient for around 500 kilometers – with a standard consumption of 20.3 to 23.3 kWh per 100 kilometers. The Taycan can charge a maximum of 270 kilowatts and needs nine hours on the 11 kW connection at home to fully recharge. At the fast charging station, it takes little more than 20 minutes to bring the battery to 80 percent.

But it stays that way – the plus in driving dynamics cannot be achieved for any customer under normal conditions. And yet the Porsche Taycan GTS – also available as a shooting brake called Sport Turismo – is likely to find a large number of buyers willing to pay who want to hang the three magic letters on the key chain and are not bothered by the opulent 25,000 euros extra price. The reason lies in the coveted GTS package, which the Zuffenhausen-based marketing department has already put in the spotlight with other models. Because the GTS doesn’t offer much more on paper than the 4S, but it stands out impressively from the other versions thanks to its sporty extras. “The Taycan model range has grown steadily since its world premiere in 2019. Three body variants with up to five engines offer something for everyone,” says Kevin Giek, Head of the Taycan series, “I’m particularly pleased that there is now a Taycan too The legendary GTS abbreviation. It is positioned above the Taycan 4S and below the Taycan Turbo derivatives. It represents the golden, sporty middle. ” A panorama roof with Sunshine Control is available as a new option for the Taycan GTS. Thanks to an electrically switchable film made of liquid crystals, it can change from clear to matt. This protects the occupants from glare, but does not darken the interior.

The sports badges are primarily black bezels for mirrors, sills and air intakes. There is also the popular Sport Chrono Package as standard, as well as aluminum wheels with 20 or 21 inch tires. None of this is rocket science, but something for the eye and for this the customer spends a little more than more – here around 25,000 euros. In the interior there are extremely chic leather seats with Alcantara elements on the door panels and the dashboard, which, especially in connection with the contrasting stitching in red or chalk, looks even more chic than the pure leather in the dark tone.

With its variable air suspension, the chassis also offers the excellent and skilfully sporty package that you know very well from the Taycan. Sports car drivers in particular have to get used to the steering characteristics, but here the Swabians have noticeably improved since the Taycan was launched. The steering is always precise – but a little different from a Panamera or even a sports car like the Porsche 911. Much of the braking power is done without the actual braking system, because most of the deceleration is brought out by recuperation and pumped the excess speed via the brake pedal with up to 275 kilowatts back into the battery pack to provide more range. Is the almost 600 hp Porsche Taycan GTS worth it or is the Taycan 4S enough for around 106,000 euros? Of course, the normal Taycan 4 is already more than well motorized from an electrical point of view, so the differences to the 4S and GTS are hardly noticeable. Porsche fans in particular should appreciate the sporty equipment and the GTS logo on the rear of the car.
