For the first time, Porsche is presenting an electric model that has a range of more than 500 kilometers. The new Taycan will be on display at the Los Angeles Auto Show in the coming days. The Stuttgart-based company is showing a total of five world premieres.
Porsche has presented a new electric car model variant with a range of more than 500 kilometers based on the global WLTP test procedure: the Taycan GTS. This makes it the first vehicle in the Taycan series of electric sports cars with a range exceeding 500. The carmaker is showing the model this week at the Los Angeles Auto Show, which will take place in the Californian metropolis from November 19 to 28.
The Taycan GTS has a 93.4 kWh battery and, according to Porsche, takes 22.5 minutes to charge the battery from 5 to 80 percent. In addition, the 598 hp sedan accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.7 seconds at a maximum speed of 250 km / h.
The new electric sports car represents “the golden, sporty middle” and is “positioned above the Taycan 4S and below the Taycan Turbo derivatives,” says Kevin Giek, head of the Taycan series. “The Taycan model range has grown steadily since its world premiere in 2019. Three body variants with up to five engines offer something for everyone,” says Giek.
Taycan with numerous black details
The GTS, whose abbreviation stands for “Gran Turismo Sport”, comes with numerous black and dark details on the exterior, such as the front trim, the feet of the exterior mirrors or the side window strips. “Numerous black Race-Tex items underline the dynamic, elegant ambience in the interior, as does the standard-fit brushed aluminum interior package anodized in black,” says a press release. The classic engine noises of a combustion engine are replaced by a sound system and are intended to accompany the acceleration of the electric car acoustically. According to Porsche, the Taycan GTS drives “with the particularly efficient drive strategy”.
The same infotainment system can be found in the interior as in the other variants. A smartphone can be linked via the Apple CarPlay or Android Auto systems and used on the vehicle’s central screen. Features also include automatic air conditioning.
At the same time as the Taycan GTS, Porsche is also presenting the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo. It is the third body version of the Porsche model series and has the sporty silhouette and the sloping roofline like the Taycan Cross Turismo – but its vehicle height is lower.
Porsche presents other models
Oliver Blume, CEO of Porsche AG, says: “(…) All in all, our young, innovative product range is extremely well received in the USA: From January to September 2021, we were able to increase our deliveries in our second largest single market by 30 percent.” According to its own information, Porsche delivered a good 51,600 vehicles in the USA.
And so Porsche uses the Los Angeles Auto Show to present a total of five new models: the 718 Cayman GT4 RS as the “highlight of the trade fair presence”, the 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport, the Taycan GTS and the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo as well as the Panamera Platinum Edition.
The Taycan GTS and Taycan GTS Sport Turismo start at 131,834 euros and 132,786 euros, respectively. Both model variants will be available from dealers from spring 2022. Further engines for the Sport Turismo are to follow.
