Moderate espresso consumption is said to help reduce the risk of dementia. This is shown by the results of a study.

Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia. In those affected, the so-called tau protein in the brain changes and deposits occur in the nerve cells that are responsible for communication between the cells. These then lose their form and function and disintegrate completely over time. This leads to the typical symptoms such as memory loss, impaired perception and increasing problems in coping with everyday life. However, some factors, such as a healthy diet, exercise, and social interactions, help reduce the risk of developing dementia. Drinking espresso should also play a role.

Coffee not only helps you lose weight, but also has many health-promoting effects. For example, the popular pick-me-up is said to reduce the risk of a stroke. Researchers have also found that espresso and coffee are said to have positive effects on brain health, thereby reducing the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. Because, according to one in the specialist magazine, espresso has an effect Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry published studythat the proteins no longer clump together and thus the deposits of tau proteins are prevented.

For their study, the scientists produced an espresso from ground beans made from Arabica coffee and Robusta coffee. In order to check whether individual ingredients prevent the deposits of the tau proteins, the chemical composition was then analyzed. Caffeine, genistein, theobromine and trigonelline were the substances in focus. These were observed for up to 40 hours in combination with chemically modified tau proteins, which in this form can trigger Alzheimer’s.

Espresso not only lowers the risk of Alzheimer’s, but also of Parkinson’s

The results of the study showed that caffeine and genistein in particular caused the proteins to stop clumping. According to the researchers, moderate espresso consumption could therefore help slow the progression of Alzheimer’s. In addition, espresso is also said to delay the development of Parkinson’s disease.
