Poppenhausen – police catch con artists – Bavaria

After a phone call about the daughter’s alleged guilt in a car accident, an elderly man in Lower Franconia handed over 200,000 euros to a fraudster. Thanks to a quick investigation, the loot was secured and an 18-year-old was arrested, the police said on Wednesday. The young man was taken into custody because of the urgent suspicion of commercial gang fraud. The senior and his wife from the Bad Kissingen district had received a call that their daughter had caused a fatal traffic accident and a deposit of 200,000 euros had to be paid. About two and a half hours after the first call, he handed the money in a plastic bag to a man who had pretended to be a police courier. It was only after a phone call with his daughter that the pensioner realized that it was fraud. In the course of the search, a patrol near Poppenhausen (district of Schweinfurt) checked a man to whom the description of the perpetrator applied. The police officers secured the 200,000 euros for the 18-year-old from Eastern Europe.
