Polygon Plans zkEVM Mainnet Beta Release on March 27th

Polygon is planning to release zkEVM, a new layer 2 scaling solution, in Mainnet Beta on March 27th.

zkEVM is a zero-knowledge or ZK-Rollup that performs off-chain computation on the secondary layer for faster and cheaper transactions while maintaining security. The goal is to further expand the scalability of the Ethereum network.

Polygon claims thatzkEVM It is equivalent to an Ethereum virtual machine, meaning the network supports the same code as Ethereum, allowing developers to onboard apps from Ethereum and run them on Polygon’s zkEVM network without making any major changes.

Although Layer 2 solutions such as Arbitrum and Optimism, solutions based on Optimistic Rollup, have seen significant growth. But layer 2 zero-knowledge solutions. It currently lacks Ethereum compatibility.

zkEVM has been in development for over a year. It has passed two third-party security audits, however, the team has yet to specify whether zkEVM will be available to the public immediately after the mainnet beta goes live.

Over the past year, Polygon zkEVM, Starknet, zkSync, and Scroll have been fiercely competing to develop a Layer 2-based ZK capable of supporting Ethereum apps. However, no one has yet released a product for public use.
