Politics in Bavaria: Aiwanger, the godfather of the vaccine opponents – Bavaria

Ironically, the Deputy Prime Minister thwarted the efforts of the state government to contain the pandemic. This is not a private matter, but a dangerous announcement.

In addition to protecting yourself, vaccinating is above all an act of solidarity. So it can be read at the top of the homepage of the Bavarian Ministry of Health. Ironically, Minister of Economic Affairs Hubert Aiwanger has not yet received this simple and accurate message. The head of the Free Voters astonished on Tuesday with the admission that he was the only member of the Council of Ministers to have not yet been vaccinated: “We should not say here that you are doing the wrong thing because you have not yet been vaccinated. It is a personal one Decision and it should stay that way. “

Unfortunately, Aiwanger is completely wrong. If the deputy prime minister contradicts the policy of his own government on a central point for inexplicable reasons, then this is not a private matter, but an announcement. And a dangerous one. Aiwanger has thus made himself the godfather of the corona deniers and anti-vaccination esotericists, who from now on can refer to him on social media: Look, even someone who should know cannot be vaccinated.

Aiwanger has obviously missed a lot in the past year and a half. Since January 2020, the cabinet has been dealing almost exclusively with the pandemic and the protection of the population. Even those who only listened occasionally in the group should have noticed that vaccinations are the only viable way out of the disaster. Aiwanger has so far been particularly noticeable because he called for relaxation when the intensive care units were fully occupied with corona patients and more than a hundred people died of the infection in Bavaria every day.

Of course, it is precisely the policy of lockdowns that needs to be questioned because this is about fundamental rights. But Aiwanger has once again demonstrated that he is not up to the task. Yes, he is a type that is not often seen in politics. On good days you can smile about the “Hubsi”. On bad days you have to be ashamed of yourself. Tuesday was a very bad day for him. With what he said, he has done serious damage to the vaccination campaign that is saving the lives and health of thousands.
