With help from police and cyber agents USDT has been blacklisted and frozen, allowing victims of the hack to lose 90 ETH, possibly getting most of their money back.
The hacked victim goes by the name L3yum on X (formerly Twitter), with the first funds being stolen on March 16 after the hacker managed to seed his hot wallet’s hot wallet phrase with tokens. Several Yuga Labs-related NFTs were stolen along with other crypto and NFTs from smaller projects, before being promptly swapped or sold.
inposted on X On August 11, L3yum emphasized that A hacker’s USDT wallet address on Ethereum has been blacklisted: “Today, after working with the police and cyber teams in our country, I might get my stolen money back.”
At time of writing, 90 ETH is equivalent to approximately $166,000 and the blacklisted wallet has $107,306 worth of USDT locked. This indicates that the victim may not get back all of the stolen funds.
It is currently unknown how victims will be refunded, however, in previous cases. USDT wallet addresses that have been blacklisted under similar circumstances, Tether will burn the blacklisted USDT and reissue equal amounts of new USDT to the original owner.
