A 30-year-old man from Lower Saxony probably imagined this night differently. Because he had to drive to the federal police station shortly after midnight. And got a lot of money back for it.

A Deutsche Bahn employee found a wallet with more than 1,000 euros in an ICE train and handed it in to the federal police. The She noticed her wallet shortly after midnight while traveling between Hamburg Central Station and Hamburg-Altona, the federal police said.

The wallet also contained personal documents as well as the driver’s license and debit card of the owner – a 30-year-old from the Rotenburg district near Hamburg.

Police: “He was really very happy”

The man picked up his wallet from the station in Altona less than an hour and a half later. “We have never seen anyone come to the station so quickly,” said a federal police spokesman. “He was really very happy.”

The man from Lower Saxony had previously reported his loss to the federal police in Hamburg by telephone. It was initially unclear where exactly the railway employee found the wallet and why the man was carrying so much cash.
