Police officers found more than three kilograms of gold in a car during a check at the border with Austria. The 21-year-old driver told officers that he wanted to buy a car in Bavaria, the federal police said on Wednesday.
In the glove compartment on Sunday in Neuhaus am Inn (Passau district), the police found almost 3.3 kilos of gold worth more than 197,000 euros. The man was questioned by customs investigators that evening, said a federal police spokesman. After that he was allowed to continue driving. He is now being investigated on suspicion of money laundering.
