A police officer must have opened fire in front of the vehicle, killing one of the migrants in the back. The driver then abandoned the van in Nice and fled on foot.
Police officer charged
Regarding the events that occurred on Wednesday, the 24-year-old driver who was traveling without a license in a stolen vehicle died after being shot by a police officer, assistant in a road safety brigade.
According to our information, a judicial investigation has been opened against the police officer, for intentional violence with a weapon having caused death without intention to give it. He was indicted for these reasons and placed under judicial control. He is prohibited from carrying a weapon.
There was also a passenger in the vehicle. Regarding the latter, injured during the incident, he will be presented to the investigating magistrate for a possible indictment for concealment and aggravated theft. For the time being, the prosecution requires his placement in pre-trial detention.
Two investigations have already been opened by the Nice public prosecutor’s office, specified the deputy prosecutor: a first, entrusted to the Departmental Security, for attempted homicide on a person holding public authority: a second, by the IGPN, the police of police, for manslaughter by the police officer who fired the shot.
