Police in Lower Franconia take in leopard gecko – Bavaria

The police have a new employee: Gecko Harald. As the officials announced on Monday, residents of an apartment building in Bad Neustadt an der Saale (Rhoen-Grabfeld district) called on Sunday and said that “a reptile was up to mischief there”.

The officials located the animal and found out on the Internet that it is an Afghan leopard gecko. Leopard geckos typically inhabit arid to semi-arid steppe areas. Even if it can sometimes get dry and hot in Franconia, the animal’s distribution area is actually in parts of Afghanistan, Pakistan or India.

A master could not be found at first. That’s why the little animal was initially housed in a terrarium at the police station – and was baptized with the name Harald. “Due to special merits during his first night shift,” Harald has already been rewarded with a cricket, the police said.

Until Harald finds his old or a new owner, he will increase the shift work of the Bad Neustadt an der Saale police station, the police report continues.
