Police caught more speeders at the Blitzmarathon than in the previous year – Bavaria

At this year’s Blitzmarathon, the police caught more speeders than in the previous year. The negative record was set by a driver who was driving on the A 995 in Unterhaching near Munich at 190 kilometers per hour instead of the permitted 80, as the Ministry of the Interior announced on Friday. A total of 9,756 drivers were flashed during the action from Thursday to Friday morning – the year before there had been 7,036 speed violations.

“Far too many don’t seem to care about speed limits and endanger themselves and others,” said Interior Secretary Sandro Kirchner (CSU). “Many people are apparently unaware of the dangers of driving too fast.” The police will therefore flash more intensively beyond the Blitzmarathon. During the lightning marathon, around 2,000 police officers and around 50 officials from the municipalities and special-purpose associations for municipal traffic monitoring checked the speed at around 2,200 possible measuring points throughout Bavaria.
