Police arrest driver after accident on A70 – Bavaria

The police have arrested a drunk and drugged driver after an accident on the A70 near Thurnau (Kulmbach district). The 55-year-old was due to be brought before an investigating judge on Friday afternoon, the police said.

He is being investigated, among other things, for endangering road traffic as a result of alcohol and drugs as well as narcotics that were found in his car, a police spokesman said. Accordingly, other proceedings were already underway against the man. He didn’t say what it was.

Officers found small amounts of marijuana, hashish and methadone in the man’s car after the accident on Thursday evening. When the accident was recorded, they noticed a strong smell of alcohol and drug-like symptoms in the driver. A breath alcohol test showed a level of 1.74 per mille. He told officers that he had stolen the license plates attached to the car and that he did not have a driver’s license.

As the message stated, the man had hit another vehicle with his car on the A70 near the Thurnau-Ost junction and crashed into the central barrier. It later turned out that he had already driven his car into the right-hand guard rail several times a few kilometers earlier and damaged warning beacons. He remained uninjured.
