They aimed a deceptively real-looking weapon at other people from the car. The police could stop the two 18-year-olds. They are now facing criminal and investigation proceedings.

Two men aimed a deceptively real-looking submachine gun at pedestrians and motorists in Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia, triggering a major police operation. The two 18-year-olds pointed the dummy at other people, like them, while driving late on Saturday evening police reported. The crew of an ambulance observed the behavior of the two young men and alerted the police. Officers then stopped the car shortly thereafter.

The police officers found the two suspects, who are said to have carried the deceptively real-looking submachine gun “ready to access”. It was “a so-called apparent weapon that is not immediately recognizable as a dummy”. It is forbidden to carry a sham weapon in public, according to the police statement on Sunday morning. The police confiscated the replica. The two men are now facing criminal and investigation proceedings. In addition, it should be checked whether the two are still fit to drive a motor vehicle.
