Podcast: The Nannen Case – Media

The debate about Henri Nannen’s Nazi past has flared up again – and with it the question of how the media should deal with their own history. That’s what the current episode of “quoted.der medienpodcast” is all about.

The debate about the Nazi past of “Stern” founder Henri Nannen, who died in 1996, has flared up again. And with it, among other things, the question of what that means for the renowned journalism award that bears the name of the publisher, and what consequences it entails for the journalism school of the same name.

The discussion started a current research of the “funk” program STRG_F, in which leaflets with anti-Semitic, racist and misogynistic propaganda can be seen, for which Nannen was responsible. During his lifetime, the publisher had acknowledged his role in National Socialism. Why is Nannen suddenly playing a role again? How does it look like, how Stern and other media deal with the brown story of their former protagonists? And why is memory so important, especially in this field?

The communication scientist Nadia Zaboura and the SZ author Nils Minkmar discuss this in the new episode of “quoted.der medienpodcast”.

Guest: Lutz Hachmeister, journalist and founding director of the Institute for Media and Communication Policy (Berlin/Cologne).

“quoted. the media podcast”, every 14 days on Thursdays. A cooperation between the CIVIS Media Foundation for Integration and Cultural Diversity in Europe and the Süddeutsche Zeitung, funded by the Mercator Foundation.
