Podcast “Munich personally”: Virologist Ulrike Protzer about Covid-19 – Munich

The virologist Ulrike Protzer has become a well-known face in Germany since the beginning of the Covid 19 pandemic. The Munich professor regularly appears on news programs or gives lectures on how the corona virus will develop and what the prospects are. Since the beginning of the pandemic there has not been a phase that has been associated with as much optimism as the current one. Is that really justified?

We pick up the director of the institute at home in Ramersdorf and take the 155 bus to her workplace near the clinic on the right bank of the Isar. The conversation is about whether you should actually still wear a mask when you’re on the bus and what the year 2023 will bring for the people of Munich. Another wave of infections and overburdened hospitals? And when should you think about a booster vaccination? Ulrike Protzer tells how her life has changed since she became a prominent virologist, how she deals with threatening emails – and which is the most beautiful place in the city for her.

For the Munich editorial team’s podcast, the People editor Sabine Buchwald, the social editor Jana Jöbstl, as well as Ulrike Heidenreich and René Hofmann, the heads of the Munich, Region and Bavaria departments, take it in turns to pick up their guests at their place of residence or their place of work. They then travel their personal route by tram, bus, subway or S-Bahn, sometimes also by cycle rickshaw or taxi.

It’s about current projects and very personal plans, about topics that move the city. About your favorite book, your favorite restaurant, your favorite club. The SZ podcast team invites people who have a connection to Munich. You live in the city or you are visiting. They come from the fields of politics, gastronomy, culture, sports or media.
