“Maybe”, says Markus Lanz to Richard David Precht, maybe you have to “briefly explain to people: Why this podcast?” Unfortunately, there is no flourish at this point in the new “Lanz & Precht” project. The television presenter and television philosopher want to talk about contemporary issues every Friday. The question of why does not really arise, according to estimates seven out of four Germans now have their own podcast. There is even a very funny “Podcasts – the Podcast” podcast and if you come to the party now, you shouldn’t necessarily expect curiosity or free slots in the cleaning and jogging routines of the audience.
Speaking of which, what would it be like to get into a standing group with Lanz and Precht at a party? Probably not much different than listening to this podcast. “What is going through your head?” Asks Lanz at the beginning, which of course sounds better as a question than the now established genre term “Laber-Podcast”. Then it starts already, and of course Lanz and Precht are enough for themselves, sometimes it even seems as if even this one interlocutor is exactly one too many for the other.

It’s about the election campaign, about politicians yesterday and today, a lot about Afghanistan. Isn’t everything wrong what Lanz and Precht say, but there are carpooling opportunities that are just as entertaining. And for Markus Lanz in particular, the podcast genre also poses a small danger his talk on ZDF there is a visual level, and a lot is precisely formatted; it starts with the camera work when the guests are introduced. A podcast is inevitably more open. Lanz says again and again, “that’s interesting” or “okay, interesting” or just “interesting”. He also says that on TV, but then you hardly notice that it’s not true that often.
In sum, two men try to be very friendly here to be a little smarter than the other. One because he read a lot of the newspaper in the afternoon. The other because he would like to go home later from the party with one of his fellow students.
