“important today”
Aminata Touré: “Politics isn’t something that you casually do for 50 years”
Aminata Touré is the top candidate for the Greens in Schleswig-Holstein and a role model for a generation of new politicians. In the case of “important today”, she talks about the coalition negotiations – and what would make her stop with politics.
Born in a refugee home, grew up in Schleswig-Holstein and then, at just 26 years old, she became Vice President of the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament: Aminata Touré. At the moment she is completely in campaign mode, she is running for the state elections in Schleswig-Holstein in May, together with Monika Heinold as the top duo for the Greens.
In the 204th episode of the “Today Important” podcast, she tells Mirjam Bittner about the “black box” of the traffic light coalition negotiations, in which she fought for the Greens on issues of equality and anti-racism: “When it was public, I was on this one I looked at the contract and thought: Great, I negotiated that, it’s really happening now.” And she explains why young and diverse people in particular should get involved in parties – even if the red carpet is usually not rolled out for them: “Democracy is not a person who calls you. We all are. And we all wear them too Responsibility for transforming such places and making them places that attract people.”
10,000 traffic offenses by diplomats in Berlin
This number has now been published by the Berlin police. Although the officials have registered fewer offenses by people with diplomatic status in the past year, the dimension is still frightening. Especially if you look at the details: From January 2021 to November 2021, diplomats were involved in a total of 46 traffic accidents in the capital. 28 of them were suspected of hitting the road. The total penalty value is around 200,000 euros – but this is not paid. Because anyone who receives this status enjoys immunity from such offenses, whether it is running over a traffic light or fleeing a driver. Maybe time to think about how far this protection goes a little too far?
