For all fans of Plus Belle la Vie, Michel Cordes was inseparable from the role of Roland Marci, manager of the fictitious bar Le Mistral. Aged 77, the actor was found dead by firearm this Friday, May 5, in his house in Hérault.
According to Free lunch, his body was discovered around 3 p.m., in Grabels. An investigation has been opened to determine the exact causes of his death. According to the Montpellier prosecutor’s office, the trail of suicide is not excluded.
A central role from the first episode
Born in Siran, in Hérault, in October 1945, Michel Cordes has lived almost all his life in this department. Actor but also author and director of theatre, he played secondary roles in films such as “The hussard is on the roof” by Jean-Paul Rappenau, alongside Juliette Binoche and Olivier Martinez (1995), or in “A matter of taste” (2000) alongside Bernard Giraudeau.
But it was Plus Belle la Vie that made her face so familiar to the general public. The actor played Roland Marci from the first episode, in 2004, and almost until the very end of the series, in 2022. Last October the plot had indeed resulted in the death of his character, only a few weeks before the definitive cessation of Plus Belle la Vie.
At the time, Michel Cordes had expressed to the Parisian his surprise to see the program so abruptly stopped, while acknowledging that he “wanted[t] To [se] to rest”. He had expressed his desire to “enjoy” with his companion and to “go back to sculpture”.
