PlayStation Showcase: Many exclusive games were ready to be shown

It seems that more exclusive games would have been in store for the PlayStation Showcase, which ultimately didn’t show up. This is reported by the mostly well-informed insider Tom Henderson.

Wolverine, Death Stranding 2, Rise of the Ronin, and the multiplayer games The Last of Us and Horizon are just a few examples of projects currently in the works for the PS5. However, none of this was shown at the PlayStation Showcase.

Also with the insider Tom Henserson, who with his statements Project Q, the new streaming handheld from Sony, once again hit the mark, the Sony show aired on Wednesday caused astonishment. He was expecting some exclusive announcements that ultimately didn’t materialize – despite the fact that they were ready for a reveal.

“It’s clear that many of the games we’re waiting for are pretty much finished. So I’m not sure why Sony decided to wait this time,” the insider said.

Especially with regard to the “next phase”, which should have been heralded with the PlayStation Showcase, according to Henderson it would have required “updates and reveals about the new PlayStation hardware as well as the exclusive focus on 1st-party titles”.

What about the new PS5 model?

According to relevant rumors, two accessory products were announced with Project Q and the new PlayStation Ear Buds. However, Sony is said to have a lot more in the works, including the new PS5 model with the detachable drive, which is scheduled to hit the market in September.

Ultimately, the question arises as to when Sony would like to unveil the new PS5 console, if the rumors are confirmed, and to ensure the further presentation of the exclusive games mentioned at the beginning.

There won’t be another PlayStation Showcase any time soon. But at least games like The Last of Us multiplayer and Death Stranding 2 could show up at Summer Games Fest on June 12, 2023.

Henderson also points to insider The Snitch, who said on his Discord channel that he was aware of some announcements that shouldn’t be shown at the showcase, including a AAA port for the PC, due out in July.

Apart from that, Sony often relies on surprising revelations that suddenly appear on the official PlayStation Blog. The mention of the new PS5 model on the PlayStation Showcase might have distracted too much from the games shown. A PS5 Pro is also said to be in the works. It’s slated to launch at the end of next year, so information on that isn’t likely to follow anytime soon.

With regard to Project Q, further details are to follow in the foreseeable future. PlayStation boss Jim Ryan said: “We look forward to sharing more information in the near future.”
