Plastic kettle: is that even possible? Five devices in comparison
There are actually no kettles without plastic, but low-plastic versions

Plastic kettles contain so-called plasticizers, which are harmful to our health. For this reason, models made of plastic should not be used to heat water in them. But are there any plastic-free kettles on the market? The answer is yes and no.
Kettles are operated electrically, so it is almost impossible to do without plastic. Because the fact is: the power supply cables contained therein cannot do without the material. The same applies to the insulating base on which the devices are placed in order to operate them electrically. So if you want to do without plastic completely, a classic kettle is out of the question. Even modern ones Kettlethat you heat on the stove contain items made of plastic. The good news, however, is that there are many models from popular brands that – with the exception of small quantities – are virtually plastic-free. We would like to introduce you to five of them.
Plastic kettles: models in comparison
1. Glass kettle
There is no kettle without plastic, but there are devices made of glass that are almost completely plastic-free – such as this one Model by Emerio. It includes an anti-limescale filter, overheating and boil-dry protection as well as an LED light that skillfully highlights the transparent body. The material is not only odorless and tasteless, but also particularly durable and hygienic. The device holds 1.7 liters of water and contains only small amounts of stainless steel and BPA-free plastic parts.
2. Stainless steel kettle
Stainless steel is particularly robust and easy to clean: Due to the smooth surface, limescale and dirt deposits should occur less often. In addition, the durable material is said to have no effect on the taste of the water, which is a real benefit for tea drinkers. A kettle without plastic does not exist among the stainless steel versions, but most devices are almost plastic-free – such as, for example this model from Wmf with a capacity of 1.2 liters and a weight of 980 grams. There is also one larger variant with 1.7 liters.
3. Ceramic kettle
Ceramic also has odorless and tasteless properties, but there are significantly fewer kettles made from the material – like this one, for example Model from Concept. Visually based on a teapot, the device holds 1.2 liters of water. One of the special properties of ceramics is that it should be able to store heat longer than stainless steel or glass and that the water in it therefore stays hot longer. Added to this is the nostalgic factor that most models of this type bring with them.
4. Retro-look kettle
This DeLonghi kettle from the new Icona Vintage series is intended to be reminiscent of the 50s. Despite its retro look, the model is extremely modern and has almost no plastic. It is made of stainless steel and has a capacity of 1.7 liters. The limescale filter it contains can be removed from the device and then cleaned under (warm) water. The retro design model is available in different colors.
5. Kettle (almost) without plastic
This kettle-look model is also an electric one KitchenAid kettle. The device is made of stainless steel and contains only a few plastic elements – such as the insulation of the handles, as these are made of metal and get extremely hot when the water boils. The lid, on the other hand, is made of aluminum and not, as is the case with many other models, of plastic. The limescale filter is also removable and easy to clean.
