Plans for a new hotel building on a former spa property – Bavaria

Ten years ago, a fire destroyed the thermal baths in Fichtelberg in the Bayreuth district. Years of disputes followed, but no prospects for the site in town. But now things should move forward again. The Bayreuth entrepreneur Bernd Deyerling has taken over the property. “The planning phase starts now,” he said. Deyerling wants to build a hotel. Which additional tourist elements could still be designed is still open. He expects several construction phases.

However, it is already certain that a sauna and wellness area will be created that will also be available to the public and not just to hotel guests, added Deyerling. He bought the property from Kristallbaeder AG in Stein near Nuremberg, and it was agreed that the details would not be disclosed.

On May 5, 2012, the thermal bath went up in flames while it was still in operation, causing millions in damage. Tough legal disputes ensued between the municipality of Fichtelberg and the bath operator about a possible reconstruction.

Now new players are taking care of the former fire ruins. Those responsible in the Fichtelgebirge welcome Deyerling’s plans. “For tourism, this means an enormous regional upgrade,” said Andreas Munder, Managing Director of Tourismus & Marketing GmbH Ochsenkopf. The communities around the Ochsenkopf and thus also Fichtelberg are on the right track after the pandemic restrictions. The municipality of Fichtelberg counted 73,573 overnight stays last year – this is the best value since the fire in the thermal baths.
