1 – Focus on an open space
In a small space, it is tempting to drop the partitions, in order to take advantage of more generous volumes. And yet, from a purely practical point of view: you will quickly feel a real lack of privacy. Paradoxically, structuring the space allows you to give the illusion that you have several rooms.
To avoid this error, first of all take into account the configuration of the space… and do not hesitate to show a little imagination!
The simplest option is the removable partition, which can be extended or folded at will, to open and close the space on demand.
You can adopt the principle of the half-partition, which lets more light through. Here, we have bet on a slightly offbeat creation, which brings a real note of originality to the decor.
2 – Forget about the ceiling height
To develop a small space, it is essential to optimize it. We therefore think of using the wall surface… up to the ceiling!
Storing high storage is especially essential in the kitchen, where it is a question of stowing work plan, household appliances, dishes, utensils and provisions.
3 – Leave wasted spaces
Arranging a small space means not wasting a single parcel of space. Whether it is this section of wall under the eaves or this corner hidden under the stairs, let’s face it: every corner can be optimized!
The space located under the ramps can accommodate low storage such as bookcases, but also an authentic mini dressing room.
4 – Open storage
Storage in every corner? Good idea ! But beware of a common mistake: opt for open storage. Of course, it is tempting to opt for shelves or niches, the structure of which may at first seem less massive than a traditional piece of furniture. But once your things are in order, beware of the clutter!
To reconcile neatness and lightness, you can opt for a mixed solution, combining niches or shelves and closed storage. This option also allows you to create an asymmetrical effect that brings a little dynamism to the decor.
5 – Poorly equipped storage
Plenty of storage, which makes full use of the available space, that’s good … Well-equipped storage, it’s even better!

6 – Poorly proportioned furniture
You already have the ruler and the pencil in your hand, and you are about to take note of the dimensions available for the office or the bookcase? Beware of a common mistake: choosing pieces that take up all the space! Of course, it is important to optimize the space, but it is also a question of not visually weighing it down. We therefore opt for furniture of suitable dimensions.

Mini oven, mini fridge, mini hob and even mini dishwasher… In the kitchen, all the household appliances are available in small sizes: we take the opportunity to have a fully equipped kitchen!
7 – Invest in traditional furniture
The bed, the desk, the sofa and the armchairs… The list of everything you need to fit into a studio or a small apartment is very long! And the result can quickly be chaotic! To avoid this pitfall, first choose modular furniture. Many brands have looked into the problem of fitting out small spaces, and to make your life easier, you can even opt for a robotic solution.

8 – Remove the dressing room or the laundry room
Some equipment is wrongly considered unsuitable in a small space. It is most often in the dressing room or the laundry room – or even both – that we give up. Of course, there may be times when a choice has to be made. But it’s worth taking the time to look into the matter before you eliminate them.
While it is often possible to fit the dressing room or laundry area into a small space, it is a good idea to hide them. Curtains are therefore the most practical and decorative idea.
9 – Poorly chosen colors
To avoid the impression of suffocating, it is important to make a small space as bright as possible. We therefore forget the colors that are too dark, and we give pride of place to light shades.
White, ecru, pearl gray, pastel colors… The range of light colors is wider than it seems!
10 – Forget the color
While it is essential to bet on a bright interior, beware of the most common mistake: not using any color! To create a small cozy space, a touch of color is welcome, as long as it is well balanced and well placed.
A simple pattern – like vertical or horizontal colored lines – brings cheerfulness while visually expanding the space.
11 – Systematically united walls
Following a firmly established idea, united walls are required in a small space. This is not quite true, on the contrary! Very trendy, panoramic wallpaper is ideal for giving depth to the room and visually enlarging it.
To achieve your effect, preferably dress the wall facing the door, and voila!
12 – Forget the decor
To arrange a small space, it is obviously essential to think practical. But beware of the fatal error: ignore the decor!
To create a cozy space, we dare to use wall decorations, without forgetting the essentials: curtains, rugs, cushions… And we add the final touch by choosing the right lights!
