Grawe has become known for his “consistency theory” presented in 1998, which combines psychological and neurological findings, and for his model of the “four basic psychological needs”. Everyone, according to Grawe, has a need for attachment, for control, for self-esteem and for gaining pleasure and avoiding displeasure, although not necessarily in that order.
