He was hoping for an artistic breakthrough: a man secretly hangs his own painting in the Pinakothek

The Pinakothek der Moderne was opened in 2002. Here visitors will find modern art from the 20th century. From Henri Matisse to Paul Klee, you can find important modern artists here. The areas are divided into four categories: art, graphics, design, architecture. Here too, certain Corona precautionary measures must currently be observed. Further information is available here.

He probably dreamed of artistic fame – and is now in trouble with the police: According to the police, an employee of the Munich Pinakothek der Moderne secretly hung one of his own paintings there.

Pinakothek reports its employee

A spokesman for the Munich police said on Monday that a report had been received for damage to property. Reason: When hanging his picture, the 51-year-old man drilled holes in the wall. According to police, the incident occurred on February 23rd. The “Süddeutsche Zeitung” initially reported in its online edition.

Accordingly, the man was an employee in the technical department of the museum. The 51-year-old man describes himself as a freelance artist. According to the police, he hoped that the action would be his artistic breakthrough. He also had access to the exhibition rooms outside opening hours and probably no one noticed him when he put up the picture. The picture probably didn’t hang in the Pinakothek for too long. A spokeswoman for the house told the newspaper: “The supervisors notice something like this immediately.” Further details about the picture – such as the style or motif – are not known.

The employee was banned from the house and released from work. Ultimately, the employment relationship at the Pinakothek was ended by a termination agreement.

In the gallery: Julian Schnabel has been making art for around 50 years – he has become famous for his paintings and is no less valued for his films. A new illustrated book is dedicated exclusively to his painted work, which could hardly be more varied.
