Picture book “Luise” by Nikolaus Heidelbach: Holding eight hands – culture

It doesn’t always have to be so dramatic and painful when a creature from the land and one from the sea like each other like in “The Little Mermaid.” Of course, Nikolaus Heidelbach, the incredibly productive illustrator, has already illustrated this famous fairy tale. In his picture, the girl with the fish’s body hangs in the deep blue night with one human arm on a rock that is shaped like the face of the fairy tale poet Hans Christian Andersen. We look with her towards the city of people. She ultimately pays for her longing with the loss of her voice and pain, “as if she were stepping on sharp knives.”
